Gem Box of Memories

The design inspiration for this project came from the aged male client who wanted to preserve and reminisce the memories of him and his wife. The large-area photo wall serves as a way to bring relief to the possible loss of memories. The female client, on the other hand, wanted the photo wall to seamlessly blend with the living environment without compromising the sense of elegance.

What sets the Gem Box of Memories apart is the conversion of the original curtain glass wall into a vegetated environment. Vertical grilled louver windows are used to control light and temperature, infusing the space with nature and liveliness. This design choice not only optimizes the use of natural lighting and vista but also contributes to energy efficiency.

The materials used in the design include marble and timber with natural textures, complemented by mirror surfaces, titanium-plated metal, and metalwork. This combination of materials manifests an elegant grandeur and exquisite craft quality.

The Gem Box of Memories is located on the 16th floor of a newly completed residential building and spans an area of 317 square meters. The layout of the space has been carefully planned to distribute the 180-degree vista to the living room and dining area, creating a harmonious interaction between the interior and the surrounding environment.

The design team faced several challenges during the project, including the incorporation of a large-size photo wall that needed to match the existing furniture, audio-visual appliances, and art collections selected by the clients. The solution was to adopt a slight sense of luxury in the modern new classical styling, which accentuated the clients' living style.

The Gem Box of Memories was completed in December 2018 in Taichung City, Taiwan. The overall design concept is based on a pure white color scheme, complemented by low color-tone grey and earth colors. The photo wall in the dining area serves as a visual tension of installation arts, while the TV wall exhibits a sense of minimal grandeur.

This exceptional design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The Gem Box of Memories showcases outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
